The city of DuPont cancelled a Seahawks rally planned for Saturday amid a planned demonstration by players ahead of their season-opening matchup with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
In a letter to the residents and businesses of DuPont, a Pierce County city with an estimated population of less than 10,000, Mayor Mike Courts said the city refused to "offer official support of the Seahawks, NFL, or individual players" in light of the proposed "pregame demonstration of unity" announced by Seattle wide receiver Doug Baldwin on Thursday.
Baldwin's announcement, which he hinted at in a Wednesday press conference at the team's practice facility in Renton, comes on the heels of protests begun by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
