Down 9-0 entering the fourth quarter, the Seattle Seahawks mounted a comeback to beat the Minnesota Vikings 10-9 in the NFC Wild Card game. The Vikings had a chance to take a lead with 26 second out, but kicker Blair Walsh shanked a 27-yard field goal. The laces were not out on the attempt, which you can see below.
It was a defensive struggle throughout the contest, as freezing temperatures helped to limit the offenses. It was the coldest game in Vikings' history, with the kickoff temperature at minus-6 degrees and a wind chill of minus-25.
It was 3-0 at halftime, with the Vikings capitalizing on a botched Seattle punt. Minnesota added two more field goals in the third quarter to take a 9-0 lead.
Seattle took the lead in the fourth quarter by scoring on their first two drives. The touchdown was set up by Russell Wilson completing a 35-yard pass to Tyler Lockett on a broken play following a botched snap. The Seahawks took the first lead of the game on a 46-yard field goal that was set up by an Adrian Peterson fumble inside Vikings' territory.
Seattle racked up 226 yards of offense, while the Vikings were limited to just 183. That's despite the Vikings leading the time of possession battle.
Wilson led the way for Seattle. He completed 13 of 26 passes for 142 yards, a TD and a pick. He also added 22 yards on the ground. His favorite target was Doug Baldwin, who caught five passes for 42 yards and the lone score of the game.
Seattle ran the ball much better than Minnesota, picking up 98 yards on 27 carries. Christine Michael racked up 70 yards on 21 carries.
Peterson ran the ball 23 times, but could only pick up 45 yards. His fumble proved to be a critical mistake. QB Teddy Bridgewater completed 17 of 24 passes but only for 146 yards. He was also sacked three times. He nearly led the Vikings to a comeback win, but the missed field goal ruined that.
The Seahawks will face the Carolina Panthers next week.
