The Seattle Seahawks hold the No. 26 overall pick in the NFL Draft after another quality season, but they're looking to add a few more impact players to help them win another Super Bowl. Here's all the latest news and rumors surrounding the Seahawks' draft plans:
Seattle still planning to draft a cornerback?
The Seahawks were previously in the market to draft a cornerback in the first round, and ESPN's Mel Kiper had them drafting Ohio State's Eli Apple to fill that void. However, the re-signing of Brandon Browner figures to take care of that need, and they will look elsewhere in the first round. Browner isn't a long-term solution at the position and the Seahawks are still expected to take a corner in the middle rounds.
If not cornerback, then what?
Offensive line now becomes Seattle's biggest need, and that's what 12th Man Rising's Keith Myers says Seattle should use their first round pick on:
The Seahawks need to overhaul their offensive line, but they cannot change up the entire unit all at once. With that in mind, which of the following players is mostly likely to end up being serviceable at their position:
- Britt at LG
- Webb at RT
- Lewis at C
Based on their last two seasons, it is a safe bet that the answer to that question will be Lewis. He likely won’t be great, and he isn’t a long terms solution, but the Seahawks simply have bigger needs.
Webb is generally terrible, but so is Britt. If you upgrade the guard spot then you can move Britt back to RT. It becomes a bit of a wash as to which one is more necessary to upgrade.
Tackles are tougher to find, and a good OG can be found in the middle rounds. Which position they take will ultimately depend on how early they wish to address the line.
Our latest mock draft has Seattle taking Ohio State OT Taylor Decker in the first round.
Andrew Billings a better fit?
Defensive line is also an area Seattle is expected to address in the draft, and with the offensive line depth in this year's class, ESPN's Todd McShay said in his 'Grade A' mock that he thinks the Seahawks should take Baylor DT Andrew Billings in the first round.
A nimble athlete for his size (310 pounds), Billings is a dominant and versatile run defender. He still needs to develop as a pass-rusher, but he'd get plenty of one-on-one opportunities playing in Seattle's stellar front seven.
