The Seattle Seahawks will reportedly release wide receiver Chris Matthews. The 26-year-old wide out had great game in the Super Bowl last season, but hadn't played much this season.
The team dangled Matthews at the trade deadline in the hopes of getting some offensive line help, but never dealt the receiver. As first reported by Mike Garafolo, the team has decided to release him outright.
Matthews appeared out of nowhere to catch four passes for 109 yards and a TD in the Super Bowl. However, he's done little since. He's caught a meager four passes 54 yards this season. He was stuck behind Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Jermaine Kearse and the now-healthy Paul Richardson on the depth chart.
The Seahawks haven't made a corresponding move yet.
Matthews is 6-foot-5 and still very young, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a team take a chance on him. The Chargers and Titans have been floated as possibilities already.
