Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is considering coming out of retirement and returning to the NFL for the 2017 season, according to ESPN's Sheil Kapadia.
Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll talked to Marshawn Lynch about 10 days ago and says the running back is at least considering a return to the NFL.
"He came through the office and had a good visit," Carroll said Wednesday. "I know that he is somewhat entertaining the thought of it. I can't tell you how strong it is. You've got to talk to him. And that chance isn't happening."
Lynch officially went on the reserve/retired list in May. If he filed for and was granted reinstatement, he would be under contract with the Seahawks for two more years.
The Oakland Raiders have expressed interest in Lynch if he does come out of retirement, but since the Seahawks still hold Lynch's rights, the Raiders would have to trade for him unless he is released.
Lynch retired one season into the two-year, $24 million contract extension he signed with Seattle in March of 2015, which is why the Seahawks still have his rights. Seattle has said they are willing to listen to offers for Lynch.
In his final season in 2015, Lynch rushed for 417 yards and three touchdowns on 111 carries.
