In Seahawks rumors today, the Seattle Seahawks may be taking a bit of a longer-view approach to filling needs at key positions, rather than looking for possible short-term fixes in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Andy Benoit of SI.com indicates that the Seattle Seahawks' "weakness" is "along the offensive line" and at wide receiver, but that the Seahawks may not look to the NFL Draft as a way to work on said weaknesses --
"Indeed, these are immediate needs, but great organizations rarely address immediate needs through the draft. Likely more pressing to general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll are 2015 needs," says Benoit.
"Among the Seahawks scheduled to hit free agency after this season: FS Earl Thomas, CB Richard Sherman, CB Byron Maxwell, DE Cliff Avril, OLB K.J. Wright and OLB Malcolm Smith. Or, in other words, most of the vaunted defense."
Benoit believes the Seahawks will utilize a dynastic approach, finding out who is expendable and who isn't, and working from there -- rather than trying to plug holes quickly with draft picks that may not pan out.
