Seattle Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman played through a major elbow injury during the team's Super Bowl XLIX loss to the New England Patriots, with ESPN's John Clayton indicating on Sunday night that Sherman "may require Tommy John surgery in the off season, according to a source"
However, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll holds a different view on the matter, per ESPN's Liz Mathews:
Carroll said Sherman may not need to have the surgery, "he's not a pitcher." Said "he needs to go have that baby first" then will evaluate.

This runs counter to a report by ESPN's Adam Caplan just a day prior, citing a confirmation by Carroll that the surgery was indeed a go:
Seahawks say HC Pete Carroll confirms Richard Sherman's left elbow will require Tommy John surgery.

Whatever the case may be, Carroll is said to be confident that the team's shutdown corner will be on the field and ready to go for the opening of the 2015 NFL season some seven months away.
