The Seattle Seahawks want to hold on to star running back Marshawn Lynch (approaching free agency in just a few months), and they're willing to get out the checkbook to make sure he stays around.
Lynch is being offered a contract extension worth at least $10 million in 2015, according to Brady Henderson on 710 ESPN Seattle. Lynch was 4th in the NFL in rushing yards in 2014 with 1306, and he was a key figure in Seattle's Super Bowl run. In three playoff games, Lynch racked up 318 yards on 63 carries (5.0 avg) with two rushing touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 63 yards.
After an up-and-down start to life in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills, Lynch found a home in Seattle and quickly established himself as one of the league's most consistent, powerful and exciting players. His rapport with Seattle's fans made him a crowd favorite, and he's rushed for at least 1,200 yards in all four of his full seasons as a Seahawk.
There have been regular rumors over the past year that the Seahawks would seek to replace Lynch with the younger, cheaper Christine Michael, but the team has consistently denied those reports. While there might have been internal discussions about Lynch's future after a slow start to the 2014 season, his exceptionally strong finish made the front office more bullish about keeping him around. The leaked extension numbers make it very clear that the front office wants him to stick around.
