The Seattle Seahawks will be without starting center Max Unger for the better part of a month after he suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Unger had just returned to the team the week before against the New York Giants after he missed four games with a sprained foot.
On Sunday, Unger was rolled up on from behind causing him to both sprain his ankle and twist his knee. He was subsequently carted from the field.
Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Monday that the ankle injury is likely to be a lot more serious than the knee problem, and that Unger will likely miss 3-4 games because of the ankle.
“We have to wait and see how he responds. High ankle sprains are all different,” Carroll said, via Curtis Crabtree of NBC's Pro Football Talk. “…Max hasn’t had one of these before so it’s the first time through it and he’ll have to figure it out as we go. It’s a second degree sprain so it’s legit and we have to take care of him.”
The Seahawks will need to add another center to the active roster as Patrick Lewis is currently the only healthy center on the 53-man roster.
