When asked if former Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy's legal history and potential upcoming suspension caused the Seattle Seahawks to hesitate in offering him a contract, general manager John Schneider didn't mince any words.
"Absolutely, yeah,” Schneider said, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “Yes. That was the primary thing.”
However, that doesn't mean the Seahawks weren't interested. It's just that they weren't willing to take the type of financial risk that the Dallas Cowboys took to land Hardy. Dallas gave Hardy $13.1 million for 2015 -- a number that far exceeded what the defending NFC champions were willing to pay for him.
"It was like, you have the background,” Schneider said. “You are trying to get more and more background on it, the situation itself and then when we found out what his level of compensation was going to be it was pretty easy for us to just walk away from it.”
