In today's edition of Seahawks news, the Seattle Seahawks have hired former Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland in a consulting role for May's NFL Draft.
According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, "whether Ireland stays in Seattle beyond the draft remains to be seen: He and the Seahawks will discuss the possibility of a full-time job after the draft ends on May 10."
Alex Marvez of FOX Sports originally broke the story, as Ireland's begins his road back from a tumultuous situation in Miami in the wake of the Richie Incognito / Jonathan Martin fiasco. Ireland was the Dolphins' GM from 2008 until this January, before Dolphins' owner Steve Ross began changing the power structure of the front office -- prompting Ross to leave.
In Smith's words, "Ireland didn’t exactly cover himself in glory during the six drafts for which he was G.M. of the Dolphins, but the well-regarded Seahawks General Manager John Schneider apparently thinks Ireland has something to contribute."
What exactly that contribution will be in the long run remains to be seen.
