The Seattle Seahawks and starting quarterback Russell Wilson are reportedly "very close" to a historic multi-year deal that could very well help to change the landscape of football contract negotiations all together.
As pointed out in a FOX Sports report, "the deal reportedly could be fully guaranteed, which would give Wilson financial security but possibly offer less overall money nonguaranteed contracts contain. That kind of deal would help Seattle's salary-cap situation. Outside of signing bonuses, NFL contracts rarely contain much guaranteed money, providing teams more financial flexibility."
Whether this leads to a trend or not, the fact remains that Wilson is on the verge of being handsomely rewarded for leading Seattle to two Super Bowl appearances and one championship.
In addition to his overall success, Wilson has also proven durable -- not missing a single game over the first three years of his time in the Pacific Northwest.
