What was initially feared to be a major ankle injury suffered by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell on Sunday has turned out to be something far less serious.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Maxwell actually has a calf strain that will keep out for a week or two:
Good news for #Seahawks: What looked like a serious ankle injury for CB Byron Maxwell is actually a calf injury that keeps him out 1-2 weeks
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 13, 2014
Per Sam Horn of SeattlePI.com, "Maxwell’s injury was initially thought to be an ankle sprain after he went down deflecting a pass intended for Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant in the second quarter on Sunday’s 30-23 loss at CenturyLink Field. Carroll clarified the injury Monday, saying a calf strain is better for Maxwell’s outlook than an ankle sprain."
Because of the fragility inherent to ankles, Maxwell would have likely been forced to rest a Grade II ankle sprain for 6-8 weeks and a Grade I for up to four weeks - a far cry from the limited time Maxwell will miss with his diagnosed calf strain.
