The Seattle Seahawks are set for a touch matchup with the Green Bay Packers, but it looks like they might be losing one of their coordinators regardless of the result.
Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has been linked to the vacant Atlanta Falcons coaching job for several weeks now, and he has reportedly told the Atlanta front office that he wants the job.
Quinn is only in his second year as Seahawks DC, but he's quickly earned a reputation as one of the league's top coordinators. After getting his start as a defensive line coach, Quinn worked his way up the coaching ranks and earned a job as Seattle's d-line/assistant HC in 2009. He left after two seasons to become the University of Florida's d-line coach/defensive coordinator, but he returned to Seattle in 2013 after two years in Gainesville.
The Falcons are also seriously considering Detroit Lions DC Teryl Austin for their head coaching job, and Austin has the advantage of being available right away. If the Seahawks beat Green Bay, Quinn wouldn't be an option for Atlanta until after the Super Bowl ends...and it's unclear whether or not they'd be willing to wait with Austin available to start immediately.
Quinn could take his second interview as early as Monday (if the Seahawks lose), but he could also interview in a few days if they win, since the Super Bowl bye week would allow him time to meet with Atlanta officials. Quinn had also been a candidate for the Jets and Broncos jobs, but at this point it's Atlanta or nothing.
