The Seattle Seahawks are making a late push for Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen, according to widespread reports. While the Vikings publicly denied Allen was on the shopping block, the player himself called out the Minnesota defense last week and the team privately acknowledged that a trade might be their best option for the disgruntled five-time pro bowler. At 1-6 and with no viable short-term plan for returning to contention, the Vikings are going to have to get worse before they get better, and that process could begin by moving Allen while they can still get something in return for the player.
Seattle would likely have to give up a second-rounder for Allen, but according to ESPN's Chris Mortenson, the Vikings would consider settling for a conditional third-round pick. Seattle is widely considered the frontrunner for Allen at this point, but there are reportedly other teams interested with another unidentified squad also in negotiations.
Allen has 4.5 sacks so far this season, and his 121.5 career sacks rank second among active NFL players.
