The Seattle Seahawks lost their most dangerous weapon in TE Jimmy Graham on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Graham tore his patellar tendon and is out for the season.
The leaves the Seahawks with just Luke Willson and Cooper Helfet at TE. Helfet has just one catch this season, while Willson has reeled in 11 passes for 140 yards and a TD. Graham was on pace for career-low numbers, but he's still a much better player than either Willson or Helfet.
With Graham out for the season, the Seahawks will likely add another TE. He might not start, as Willson should be the new No. 1, but Seattle should be able to find an upgrade over Helfet. The team has no TEs on the practice squad, so they'd need to add a free agent or sign someone off a different practice squad. With that in mind, here are 5 players the Seahawks could sign to replace Jimmy Graham.
5. Fred Davis, FA
Davis had the potential to be a starting TE, but battled injuries, suspensions and attitude issues. He was with the Patriots in the offseason, so there's a chance he could still make it in the NFL. However, the 29-year old hasn't played in a game since 2013. Of course, bringing the second round pick in for a workout has no downside.
4. Wes Saxton, Jets
Saxton has potential, which is why the Jets have the undrafted rookie on their practice squad. He briefly got the call to the active roster, which means he's at least able to serve as a third TE. His upside could convince the Seahawks to try to swipe Saxton.
3. Ben Koyack, Jaguars
The Jaguars took Koyack in the seventh round of the NFL Draft, but he wasn't able to make the active roster. He'd be a fit with Seattle, since he drew comparisons to Willson entering the draft.
2. Arthur Lynch, Broncos
Lynch was a fifth round pick by the Dolphins in the 2014 NFL draft, but is already on his third NFL team. The Jets signed him when the Dolphins cut him this year, before the Broncos did the same. Lynch has some talent and could contribute quickly for Seattle.
1. Joseph Fauria, Patriots
Fauria has some name recognition, after catching seven TD passes in his rookie season with the Lions. He's battled injuries since then and has bounced from the Lions to the Cardinals to the Patriots. He's currently on New England's practice squad, but Seattle could use. He'd be a great fit as a red zone threat, something the Seahawks lack with Graham out.
