49ers vs. Seahawks: Breaking Down Seattle's 29-13 Win

The Seattle Seahawks are back to .500 and looking dangerous after a 29-13 victory over the rival San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Here's some notes, quotes and observation from Seattle's convincing win.

Notes:

Seahawks rookie RB Thomas Rawls owned the field today. Rawls ran for 209 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries, consistently gashing the San Francisco front seven. It was the second-best rushing day in franchise history.

49ers QB Blaine Gabbert moved the 49ers offense efficiently at times, but the 49ers were forced to settle for two short field goals on drives that looked extremely promising. Gabbert went 22/34 for 264 yards and a touchdown.

Seattle QB Russell Wilson had his best passing day of the 2015 season, going 24/29 for 260 yards and three touchdowns.

The 49ers had the ball for just a shade over 22 minutes, but still managed 300+ yards of total offense. However, the problem is that Seattle gained over 500.

Quotes:

"Marshawn came up to me, said, 'look young'un, I'm gonna pass the torch to you today'" -- Thomas Rawls on Lynch's pregame motivational speech.

"We didn't fit up the run well, and we didn't tackle well." -- 49ers coach Jim Tomsula

"We've improved considerably. It's about time." -- Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on improved play from the team's offensive line.

"At the end of the day, we didn't do enough to win. We need touchdowns in the red zone." -- Blaine Gabbert

Observations:

The San Francisco 49ers are still a mess, at least in the running game. QB Blaine Gabbert had a decent enough game, but San Francisco's depleted running game did him no favors. Add in an awful performance by the front seven against the run, and it's very apparent that this is a lost season for the 49ers -- both from a 3-7 record standpoint and the look on the players' faces. If head coach Jim Tomsula is to survive this season, he better have a fantastic long-term plan ready to share.

The Seahawks are the most dangerous 5-5 team in NFL history. They're liable to go on a roll any second, especially if Thomas Rawls continues to emerge in the backfield. Seattle is just one game behind the Atlanta Falcons for the final NFC Wild Card spot and two games behind the Minnesota Vikings for the #5 slot. If they can jump the field, they've got the pedigree and the talent to win it all whether they finish 9-7, 10-6 or whatever.
