All 32 NFL teams head into training camp with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations. Only a select few will actually turn said aspirations into reality. Here's 4 Reasons Why The Seattle Seahawks Will Make The Playoffs This Season.
4. The 12th Man
Seattle is 22-2 (!) at CenturyLink over the past three regular seasons. Part of that is the travel for opposing teams but the heart of the matter are the tens of thousands of rabid Seahawks fans basically sitting on top of the action while creating earthquakes with both their cheers and boos. Averaging over seven home wins a season over the past three, the Seahawks could feasibly finish under .500 on the road and make the playoffs with room to spare.
3. Pete Carroll
"I would say (Carroll is) like playing for Willy Wonka," Michael Bennett said recently. "He's crazy. He wants to be young. He's just one of those guys who's always upbeat and just wants to have a good time because he lets you be yourself."
Players don't just want to play for a coach like Pete Carroll. Players want to WIN for a coach like Pete Carroll. He builds cohesion even in the face of chaos, and he'll once again be the Seahawks' Weapon X this upcoming season.
2. Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson's athleticism and on-field decision making are fantastic enough. However, it's his unflappable confidence and beyond-his-years veteran presence which puts this team over the top. There's no quarterback in this league who goes about his business quite like Russell Wilson does, and that uniqueness is essential to what this whole Seahawks operation is all about. Will Wilson around, a playoff spot is virtually guaranteed.
1. Defense! DEFENSE!
Byron Maxwell may be gone, but one man does not make a defense. Recent signing Cary Williams will do an admirable job in his stead, adding a touch of consistency to the most talented defense in all of the NFL. Seattle's defense gave up 541 fewer yards than their next closest competition (Detroit) in 2014. With a giant offseason-sized chip on Richard Sherman and the crew's shoulders following last year's Super Bowl heartbreak, that gap could easily get bigger.
