The 2015 NFL season is just weeks away, and there’s plenty of intrigue to spare surrounding the Seattle Seahawks as the days tick down. Here are three things to watch for in training camp:
How will Jimmy Graham change the offense?
When the Seahawks gave up a top-flight center (Max Unger) and a draft pick to acquire Graham from New Orleans, they did it in full belief that he's ready to put elite wide receiver's numbers from the tight end spot. Having a safety valve that doubles as one of his top playmakers will be a boon for Russell Wilson. It's up to Graham to live up to the hype and take the passing game to the next level.
Can the defense avoid taking a step back?
Byron Maxwell may be gone and Kam Chancellor is holding out, but one man does not make a defense. Recent signing Cary Williams will do an admirable job in his stead, adding another layer of consistency to the most talented defense in all of the NFL. Seattle gave up 541 fewer yards than their next closest competition (Detroit) in 2014. With a giant offseason-sized chip on Richard Sherman and the crew's shoulders following last year's Super Bowl heartbreak, that gap could easily get bigger.
Russell Wilson's expanded leadership
Seattle made Russell Wilson their franchise player by making him the second-highest paid quarterback in the league, and it's clear that he's the face of the franchise. Wilson's athleticism and on-field decision making are fantastic enough, but it's his unflappable confidence and beyond-his-years veteran presence which puts this team over the top. There's no quarterback in this league who goes about his business quite like Russell Wilson does, and that uniqueness is essential to what this whole Seahawks operation is all about.
