The Seattle Seahawks are once again the favorites to outdistance the NFC and make it back to the Super Bowl, but there's still some things that will need to be ironed out to turn that projection into a reality. Here's 3 Things The Seahawks Must Do To Get Back To The Super Bowl.
1. Keep It On The Ground
The Seattle Seahawks posted a top-ten finish in total offense last season, which is made even more impressive knowing that they finished dead last in pass attempts (454) on the campaign. No quarterback in the league does more with less throws to work with than Russell Wilson, and it will behoove the Seahawks to stay true to that less-is-more mentality and pound the rock on the ground in its usually variety of ways.
2. Embrace Continuity
The league's best defense three years running returns mostly intact from an on-the-field perspective, with the departure of cornerback Byron Maxwell standing as the biggest hurdle personnel-wise. However, the true test here is how the defense responds with someone other than Dan Quinn calling the shots. Seattle ensured continuity in promoting defensive backs coach Kris Richard to the new Atlanta Falcons head coach's former post, but it still remains to be seen if he can keep the ball rolling the same way while running the entirety of the defensive unit.
3. Block Out The Noise
As is usually the case in our reactionary sports news culture, a host of NFL pundits spun the Seattle Seahawks' near miss in Super Bowl XLIX into a catastrophic choke job of franchise-killing proportions.
Don't listen to the hype for one second. This Seahawks team weathered more than its fair share of controversy last season just to make it to the Super Bowl, and the team's foundation of character guys should keep them from turning others' criticisms into a self-fulfilling prophecy. If they can block out all the B.S. once again and focus on the task on the turf, there's no reason why they won't be back in the big game for the third-straight year.
