SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that both outfielder Phillip Ervin and infielder/outfielder Tim Lopes have been claimed off waivers. Ervin was claimed by the Chicago Cubs, while Lopes was claimed by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Ervin, 28, was designated for assignment on Wednesday, Dec. 16 after being claimed off waivers by Seattle from Cincinnati on Sept. 3. He was designated for assignment by the Reds on Aug. 28. With the Mariners, he hit .205 (8x39) with 5 runs, 3 doubles, 4 RBI and 8 walks in 18 games.
