EUGENE, Ore. — An Oregon man is appealing his drunk driving conviction, claiming his body actually makes its own alcohol.

Ray Lewis was convicted on driving under the influence of intoxicants charges last year after crashing his truck on the McKenzie River Highway east of Eugene. The truck rolled, spilling 11,000 salmon across the highway.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife employee claims he suffers from a rare medical condition called "auto-brewery syndrome," and that his increased blood alcohol level wasn't from drinking.
