On June 2, the Seattle Mariners traded Jay Bruce to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league prospect Jake Scheiner. In the Emerald City, Bruce was batting .212 with 14 homers. Since heading to the City of Brotherly Love, the veteran right fielder has five dingers, a .379 average and was named National League Player of the Week.
If that all sounds strangely familiar, it's because it is. After all, Bruce is just the latest former Mariner to find success with another team.
Taking risks is part of any sport, and sometimes you gamble on a trade.
