CLEVELAND — The Mariners avoided three consecutive road losses thanks to one timely hit from Norichika Aoki and outstanding pitching from Taijuan Walker in a 2-1 win over the Indians on Wednesday at Progressive Field.
Aoki gave the Mariners an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. With runners on first and second with two outs, Aoki yanked a hard groundball just inside the right-field line off Cleveland starter Danny Salazar. The ball rolled into the corner, allowing Adam Lind and Chris Iannetta to score and Aoki to roll into third with a triple.
That was all the offense the Mariners mustered in the game.
