MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tacoma Rainiers lost 3-1 to Memphis in their series opener in PCL play Friday.
Rainiers starting pitcher Jarret Grube held the Redbirds to just one run on just three hits over 62/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five but did not factor into the decision.
Stefen Romero and Zach Shank each had two hits for the Rainiers. Dan Vogelbach reached base three times, all on walks.
Romero snapped a scoreless tie and ended the Rainiers’ 16-inning scoreless streak with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh. It was his 19th homer.
