The Mariners have agreed to trade left-handed pitcher Mike Montgomery to the Chicago Cubs, according to a baseball source.
The Mariners will receive designated hitter/first baseman Dan Vogelbach in return, according to Yahoo! reporter Jeff Passan. Vogelbach is playing at Class AAA Iowa. He is hitting .318 with 16 home runs, 64 RBIs and a .425 on-base percentage.
Analysts think Vogelbach is likely a DH, but he has the patience at the plate coveted by Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto.
As Dipoto told 710 ESPN after trading for Adam Lind, “We wanted to get away from so much power.
