Seth Smith leads Mariners’ home-run barrage in 16-4 rout of Padres

The Mariners clubbed a season-high five home runs — including two by Smith — and rolled to their most lopsided victory of the season.

The idea was to manufacture some fun after the game.

Mariners manager Scott Servais brought his favorite accessory to the ballpark Tuesday — a Green Bay Packers cheesehead, which he planned to wear as the club traveled to San Diego after Tuesday’s game. For the road trip, Servais, a Wisconsin native, had asked his players also to put together a wardrobe that represented where they are from, preferably something bold or fun or, even, cheesy.
