The Seattle Mariners on Wednesday selected right-handed pitcher Emerson Hancock out of the University of Georgia with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Hancock, listed at 6 feet 4 and 213 pounds, went 16-7 with a 3.47 ERA and 206 strikeouts over 33 career starts in three seasons for the Bulldogs.
“Emerson is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound power arm with 4 plus-pitches and plus-command,” Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter said in a statement. “His combination of stuff, strike-throwing and size profile shim as a true top-of-the-rotation starter. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to select such a special talent with the sixth pick.
