Despite playing virtually his entire professional career as a shortstop and second baseman, Mariners rookie Ketel Marte debuted in center field Monday night in the Seattle Mariners’ taut 8-7 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Marte had a forgettable day at the plate (0-for-4 with a strikeout), but looked comfortable in the field, making a running catch and slamming into the wall in the bottom of the second when Rockies catcher Nick Hundley sent a fly ball over his head.
Not too shabby for a guy who had just four starts in center field at Triple-A Tacoma before getting recalled late last week.
