PEORIA -- Rather than be angered or annoyed, Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano maintained Thursday he immediately dismissed offseason criticism from former outfield coach Andy Van Slyke.
This past November, Van Slyke blamed Cano's poor first half of the 2015 season for costing general manager Jack Zduriencik and the coaching staff -- minus hitting coach Edgar Martinez -- their jobs.
"Honestly it didn't hurt me because coming from a guy like him it doesn't bother me at all," Cano said Thursday before the club's first full-squad workout. "Because I know how I played. You guys know. If you heard the comments, first he threw me under the bus.
