The Mariners made a second swap with their Triple-A affiliate Tuesday, optioning infielder/outfielder Stefen Romero to the Rainiers to clear a space on the roster for reliever Tony Zych.
Zych is expected to pitch Tuesday night, manager Scott Servais said, after the right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list in early May with rotator cuff tendinitis in his throwing shoulder. He was activated from the 60-day DL Tuesday as part of the move.
The Mariners beat the Yankees, 7-5, Monday night despite having a six-man bullpen hours after right-hander Drew Storen was placed on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation.
