PEORIA, Ariz. -- Few decisions invoke more emotion from baseball fans than when a manager decides it's an appropriate time to bunt.
Some hate it.
Some love it.
Others feel it should be used sparingly.
Mariners manager Scott Servais hinted Monday that he falls into the third category, a welcome sign for the analytics crowd that detests the idea of giving away an out.
"There's a time to bunt, there's no doubt," Servais said. "I think it's something that I'm not a big proponent of early in games. Again, there's a lot that plays into it, ballpark conditions, who's pitching against you, where your club is, but there's some times (when) it comes up late in the game.
