To make room on the 25-man roster, left-handed reliever David Rollins was optioned back to Tacoma after a one-day stint with the Mariners. Rollins pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in Friday's 8-4 victory over Boston, pitching a 1-2-3 eighth and giving up a pair of singles in the ninth before turning the game over to closer Steve Cishek for the final two outs.
Sampson, 24, was acquired from the Pirates last July 31 in a Trade Deadline deal for veteran lefty J.A. Happ. He has been Tacoma's most-productive starter this season, with a 7-4 record and 3.
