The Seattle Mariners won't play at Safeco Field after the 2018 season, but don't worry, M's fans -- the team isn't going anywhere.
The Mariners announced Tuesday that Safeco Insurance will not extend its naming-rights agreement with the club, which began in 1998 when Safeco signed a 20-year deal worth a reported $40 million. The stadium officially opened on July 15, 1999.
"Safeco Insurance has been a great partner of the Mariners dating back to the earliest days of the franchise, including the ballpark naming rights for the last 20 years," M's President Kevin Mather said in a statement.
