Robinson Cano is crushing baseballs at a historic clip for a second baseman

Four hits, all home runs. For Robinson Cano, who endured offseason double-hernia surgery and an onslaught of criticism from former coach Andy Van Slyke, it was an ideal way to start the 2016 regular season.

The second baseman had two homers Wednesday in the Mariners ' 9-5 win over the Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

In the first inning, Cano took Texas starter Colby Lewis deep for a two-run shot that staked the Mariners a 2-0 lead. He added another two-run homer in the ninth off closer Shawn Tolleson after the Mariners had already rallied from a 5-4 deficit behind an RBI double from Leonys Martin and a two-run single from Kyle Seager.
