Seattle Mariners CEO Howard Lincoln will resign from his post as a result of a long-rumored ownership shakeup that will finally go into effect Wednesday, according to a report from 710 ESPN Seattle's Mike Salk.
Lincoln, 76, has served as the Mariners CEO since 1999, a stretch when the club went from a playoff team in 2000 and 2001 before undergoing a postseason drought that, at 16 years, is the longest active streak in Major League Baseball.
According to the 710 ESPN report, John Stanton, a long-time minority owner, would "become the new point person" for the ownership group.
