On the day they announced that James Paxton would miss approximately three weeks with a strained pectoral, the Mariners reportedly made a trade for another Canadian left-handed starting pitcher.
Per David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Mariners have acquired Andrew Albers from the Braves for cash considerations. Albers has spent all season pitching for Class AAA Gwinnett, posting a 12-3 record and 2.61 ERA in 17 starts and nine relief appearances.
The similarities between Albers and Paxton end at country and throwing arm. Albers, 31, is a soft-tossing control lefty with a fastball that sits around 87-90 mph.
