On this date seven years ago today, we lost our voice.
Dave Niehaus, the voice of the Mariners from the club’s inception in 1977 through the 2010 season, passed away on November 10, 2010.
Niehaus was honored with the Ford C. Frick Award as part of Hall of Fame Weekend in Cooperstown, New York in 2008. He joined the greatest baseball broadcasters in the history of the game in receiving the award which is presented annually to a broadcaster for “major contributions to baseball.”
From the outset of the club’s “initial voyage” in 1977, Dave was the voice of spring and summer in the Northwest, a voice that provided the soundtrack to the some of the greatest moments in franchise history.
