Friday marked the second day of work on Safeco Field’s new playing surface project. It will be a nearly month-long process, but the progress has already been dramatic.
On Thursday, a crew from A.M. Landshaper in Spokane removed the outfield grass with a fraise mower. By the end of the workday on Friday, Mariners Head Groundskeeper Bob Christofferson and his crew had excavated the top layers of the infield dirt while A.M. Landshaper removed the grass in foul territory.
The new grass, which is coming from Country Green Turf Farm near Olympia, the original supplier of Safeco Field’s grass, will be installed by the end of the month.
