OAKLAND -- A sharp line drive off the upper left forearm of James Paxton led to a first-inning exit for the Mariners southpaw and the first relief appearance in Felix Hernandez's career in Tuesday's game against the A's.
X-rays on Paxton were negative. He has a bruised left forearm and is day to day.
Paxton took a 96-mph shot off the bat of Jed Lowrie off his arm and was immediately removed from the game. He initially started to chase the ball as it bounded back toward home plate, then stopped in obvious pain.
