Orioles game will be first in empty stadium (Big League Stew)

As riots over the death of Freddie Gray continue to engulf the city of Baltimore, the Baltimore OriolesChicago White Sox will play in an empty stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The game will start at 2:05 p.m., with only players, team employees, and credentialed media in the stadium.

An empty stadium will mean more than silence. The Orioles are averaging 33,228 fans per game this year. Assuming each fan spends $10, that’s $332,280 in lost revenue for a single game. If each buys a hot dog and two beers, the Os are looking at more than a million dollars in lost revenue.
