SALEM, Ore. (KATU) —
Oregon took in more green than expected with its new recreational pot tax, with the Department of Revenue processing nearly $7 million in the first quarter.
The numbers will soon surpass the $10.7 million that the Oregon Liquor Control Commission expected to raise within the first two years of the tax.
The department has processed $6.84 million in payments since therecreational marijuana tax went into effect January 4.
Collecting those taxes is no simple task. More than half of Oregon's recreational pot dealers payed their taxes in cash (57 percent by appointment, 43 percent by mail).
