Not content with a defense he viewed as too slow for Safeco Field's spacious dimensions, a lineup that didn't get on base enough and a bullpen that imploded last season, Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto has been a busy man since being hired to replace Jack Zduriencik in late September.
On Nov. 5, Dipoto sent hulking first baseman Logan Morrison, utility-man Brad Miller and reliever Danny Farquhar to the Tampa Bay Rays for starter Nathan Karns, reliever C.J. Riefenhauser and minor-league outfielder Boog Powell.
Last week, he sent a pair of minor-league prospects to the San Diego Padres for proven veteran reliever Joaquin Benoit and signed Franklin Gutierrez to a one-year, incentive-laden contract.
