Officers at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge discovered nearly 2,500 pounds of marijuana hidden in a commercial shipment of carrots on Sunday.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred the tractor-trailer containing the carrot shipment to secondary inspection upon its arrival from Mexico, according to an agency news release.
Following examination of the tractor-trailer, officers discovered 2,817 carrot-shaped packages of marijuana hidden among the bags of carrots. The packages weighed about 2,493 pounds.
Customs and Border Protection referred the case to Homeland Security Investigations.
