WHITESBORO, N.Y. (CNYCENTRAL) — The Village of Whitesboro has decided to change course when it comes to their town seal, opting for a redesign after getting national attention from Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" last week.

The announcement comes 11 days after the majority of the village residents voted 157-55 to reject the adoption of a new seal.

The village's long-time seal, which has been called racist, depicts a white man grabbing a Native American around the neck.

The mayor said the emblem dates to the early 1900s and depicts a friendly wrestling match between village founder Hugh White and an Oneida Indian.
