Notebook: Mariners trying out different 8th-inning options after Mark Lowe trade

The Mariners bullpen has looked fairly different since last week's MLB non-waiver trade deadline.

Mark Lowe had been Seattle's most consistent reliever all season, maintaining a 1.00 ERA as the team's main set-up guy, but he found himself in a Blue Jays uniform after the deadline. That's left manager Lloyd McClendon to figure out different ways to bridge to closer Carson Smith since.

"Obviously Mark was a valuable piece of our bullpen," McClendon said before Saturday's tilt with Texas. "He pitched the eighth inning for us, so right now (Tom) Wilhelmsen and (Fernando) Rodney will pitch the eighth inning.
