New Mariner Healy has tests for hand injury

PEORIA, Ariz. -- First baseman Ryon Healy, one of the Mariners' main offseason acquisitions, is dealing with a hand injury and was undergoing tests on Wednesday to determine his status for the start of Spring Training.

Mariners pitchers and catchers reported for physical exams on Wednesday, and while position players don't report until Monday, manager Scott Servais acknowledged there is some concern over Healy's situation.

"He had an issue that came up early in the offseason when he first started working out and hitting," Servais said. "We thought it wasn't that big of a deal and we shut him down for a while.
