Officials from theNevada Department of Wildlife released the first 6,000 of 30,000 rainbow trout into the Truckee River on Wednesday, March 30.
NDOW reports they were forced to stock the river in early February in 2014 and 2015, but was able to wait until February this year, indicating a more typical year for the Truckee River.
1,500 trout each were released at four different locations along the Truckee River: Fisherman's Park, Booth Street Bridge, Patagonia Bridge, and Crystal Peak Park.
NDOW annual stocks about one million fish throughout the state.
