ANAHEIM, Calif. — In the eighth inning of Sunday’s season finale, Nelson Cruz stepped to the plate one last time.
While almost all the regular players for the Angels and a handful of Mariners had been removed from the meaningless game, Cruz was still in the game battling and trying for one more homer.
But in his final at-bat of the 2017 season, he struck out swinging against right-hander Blake Wood after fouling off five straight pitches.
