RENO, Nev. (KRNV) - The Natural Environment Research Council of the U.K. hoped to "break the ice" by asking the British public to name its brand-new, 200 million pound ($288 million) polar research ship through its #NameOurShip campaign. As such, the council very well may end up with a ship named the "RRS Boaty McBoatface."
Nominations included famed British scientists, public figures, and pioneers, but as of Sunday afternoon, Boaty McBoatface took the lead.
The ship will join a fleet of RRS, including the former Bransfield, John Biscoe and Shackleton.
